I finally convinced John I needed, not just wanted a new tree. we had the other one for about 9 years. It was time for a new one. We found this one, a slim cashmere tree, at Menards for about $40 and mounted it in an urn style planter I got at Lowe's. I have wanted a tree in a planter for a long time. I also wanted to try taking a few pictures using some techniques to get that awesome "starry" lighting. Long exposure times and a tripod are key, but I think these turned out nice.

Trees in an urn seem to be popular recently. I saw them on 2 craft/decorating shows on cable. One of the benefits is they are raised so you can actually get bigger presents under them. Maybe next year, depends if I can find a tree on clearance at the end of the season or not.
